Summary
John Brown is Regius Professor of Astronomy in the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy in The University of Glasgow. In 1995, he was appointed by the Queen as the 10th Astronomer Royal for Scotland, a title he uses to promote astronomy in the public eye and in education.
It is in this spirit that John comes to talk to Glasgow Skeptics in the Pub, speaking on "Gravitation, relativity, quantum mechanics and chaos".
Biography
John's paid position is as Regius Professor of Astronomy in the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy in The University of Glasgow. In this he is Leader of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Group, coordinator of astronomy teaching and outreach within the Dept., and lecturer on many aspects of Astronomy. In addition, John is an Honorary Professor in the University of Edinburgh and the University of Aberdeen, giving a course in the latter on Honours level Stellar Physics. Having studied in Glasgow 1964-68 and joined the faculty immediately thereafter, he has been based in Glasgow throughout his career but has held many visiting fellowships abroad and is involved in numerous international collaborations.
